SCENES OF THE HOUSE

August 1st, 2018

Having lived in the same house my whole life, I have seen the world through red cottage-pane windows. I paint aspects of the house - architectural form, line, edge, minimalized and abstracted. I used the 3D effect of oil paint on carved-out plywood, allowing areas of the natural grain of the wood to show through.

FLOWERS AND ALMONDS

9 - 16 June 2022

"Moses came to the Tent of Testimony and behold! the staff of Aharon of the house of Levi had blossomed; it brought forth a blossom, sprouted a bud and developed almonds."(Numbers 17:23)

This series of paintings is based on the above verse. Each painting is a visual representation of the miracle of Aharon's staff blooming and producing fruit. This miracle cemented Aharon's position as High Priest and his descendants with the legacy of the priesthood. Each painting represents another priest and descendants of Aharon who impacted Jewish history.

I wanted to express the idea of wood coming to life, much like the staff of Aharon, and chose to use only living materials; raw wood brought to life by the organic nature of oil paints. i applied the golden ratio formula to my art and created colourful geometric abstractions, including straight lines and circles. This represents the structure and flow of the natural world around us.

NEW DAY SPRING GROUP EXHIBITION

3 November 2022

Hosted by Graham Modern and Contemporary Art Gallery.

This artwork at the New Day Spring Group Exhibition demands attention to detail, a series of highly orchestrated forms, colours and textures. This painting took over three years to complete and has deep emotional significance due to the experience I have lived through during this time. I focused on the relationship of happenings, watching
what my mark-making is creating.

THE PAST AND THE FUTURE

19 January 2023

Curated by Chaya Toron and hosted by Altair Hotel, Miami.

Honouring one's parents is a mitzvah brought down in the ten commandments. "Honor your father and mother". After all, no matter how much we respect our parents, we can never repay them for bringing us into the world.
One of the ways we Honor our parents is if they have a particular seat, we, as children, do
not sit in it.
These two paintings, named Abba (father) and Imma (mother) are a visual
representation of this mitzvah.
I am highlighting the makom (place) where my parents sit, showing respect for them.

RABBONIM

6 - 24 August 2023

"Yehoshuah ben Prachya and Nitai Ha'arbeli received it from them. Yehoshua ben Prachya says: Make a teacher for yourself. and acquire a friend for yourself, and judge each man on the scale of merit." (Pirkei Avot 1:6)

This artwork series represents the quote, "Make a teacher for yourself". Who is a teacher? Our sages explain that one should not have one teacher but rather learn from all. Now The idea of a rebbe is that you gain an understanding of both the spiritual and physical realms from the rebbe's teachings. There have been many rabbonim and teachers throughout the years. However, I have highlighted specific rebbes from the 20th and 21st centuries that nurtured modern Judaism. These rebbes have significantly affected my life, and their teachings are profound.

This body of work aims to highlight these remarkable figures in Jewish history and draw attention to the painterly mode of portraiture. The freedom of gesture while maintaining a level of resemblance of each rebbe. Direct brushstrokes and varied colours while staying true to the reference images. Each painting tries to capture a moment, an energy and a presence—the idea of catching the being in a single frame

. May these great rabbonim continue to live on in our homes, hearts, and minds.
